iPhone 5 Day is Here

Later today, Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhone iteration during a highly publicized event aptly named “Let’s Talk iPhone.”  Cnet will be keeping us up with a play by play from their liveblog beginning at 10 am PDT (that’s 1 pm EDT for those of us on the east coast.)  Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs is not expected to appear, but you never know.  Instead, this might be Tim Cook’s first big Apple announcement since he assumed the role of CEO in August.

Rumors have been roaming the wild for months ahead of today’s news, but this comes as no surprise to Apple Fanboys all over the world who are often responsible for starting and keeping alive the expectations — some realistic, others obviously not — as to what is coming next.  Sites like Mac Rumors keep the excitement levels high year round, even when scheduled annual Apple events are months away.  People can’t seem to get enough of this stuff.

Today, I’d like to show you an infographic illustrating when the first iPhone 5 rumors got started, and the long and curvaceous path they have taken to the present.  This offers some amusing insights into the minds of people who are probably a bit too into their iPhones, and a final glimpse of what folks seem to think will be announced later today.  I wonder how much of this will turn out to be true.
